The new toilet provided at the entrance to the Ward River Valley Park has been vandalised twice this week.
The facility, which was part of a major upgrade in facilities, had the door forced, dispensers taken from the walls, electrical fittings smashed, and cisterns broken.
Despite the damage, Fingal County Council staff got the facility fixed in a matter of days but just hours after it was reopened similar damage was caused and this time a small fire was lit within the unit.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“It is absolutely disgraceful what has happened in Rivervalley in the last week. The community, and the council, have worked hard to deliver those facilities and to see some people just trash them and to come back again and again to do it is just despicable.
“Whatever we do we cannot let this tiny group of people lead to facilities that are used and enjoyed by so many people closed down. We need greater deterrents, such as CCTV, as well as better patrolling from Park Rangers and the Gardaí to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
