A huge primary healthcare facility, designed to service a population of 70,000, will begin construction later this year, according to the HSE
The new facility will accomodate GPs, Primary Care Teams, Dentists, a Mental Health Day Hospital, Adolescence Mental Health Teams, and Chronic Diseas specialists, and will be located in Airside Business Park.
The Office of the Head of Service Primary Care, CHO North City & County confirmed this week:
The Swords Primary Care Centre is being delivered via the HSE’s Primary Care Centre Operational Lease mechanism. This mechanism facilitates primary care services being provided by both the public and private sector (HSE and General Practitioners) on an integrated basis. The private sector provides for the Primary Care Team (PCT) infrastructure with the HSE taking fixed term leases for their portion of the facilities.
Following national advertisement, the selection process is concluded and a site at Airside is the location of the proposed centre. The project has received full planning permission. The HSE are working towards entering into an Agreement for Lease with the preferred provider in Q3 2023. It is anticipated that the developer will commence the project in 2023, therefore the current estimated delivery and occupancy of the Primary Care Centre will be late 2025.
The new facility will bring together a number of existing services in Swords as well as bring new services to accomodate the growing population.
According to minutes of HSE Board meetings the facility will provide the following services:
- Three/Four Primary Care Teams
- Community Mental Health Team
- Mental Health Day Hospital
- Child and Adolescence Mental Health Team (CAMHS)
- Progressing Disability Services Team (EIT& SAT)
- Dental
- Audiology
- Social Inclusion Hub
- GP Accommodation
- Integrated Care Programme, Older Persons Team (ICPOP)
- Integrated Care Programme, Chronic Disease Management Team (ICPCDM)
- Community Healthcare Network Teams (CHN)
Cllr Ian Carey said:
This is really important news for Swords. The new Primary Care Centre will be invaluable to the town and prevent so many people having to leave for essential healthcare services. The provision of services for the elderly and for those with chronic diseases co-located with other services is very positive. I will continue to call for greater investment in healthcare provision in Swords area.
