As construction works on the section of the Brackenstown Road which subsided last year are finally complete, engineers are planning another phase of works.
The stop-go system which has been in place for a year will removed from the Brackenstown Rd in the coming weeks but it will return in September as an 80m section of the road has been identified as at risk of subsidence.
This will mean more congestion on this important access route to Swords during the Autumn.
Engineers had originally identified clay in the foundations as the root cause of the issue but further investigations have found that drainage issues may have been weakening the road.
The second phase of works will go to tender shortly with an estimated start date of early September. It is hoped that the works will not take as long as the current phase as access to the area is easier and the road is in better condition.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“This had been flagged but it is still going to be a serious inconvenience for the busy back to school/college time. I hope given the assessments of the area that this will be the last of the subsidence works needed in the area. I will continue to keep people informed of updates.”
