In a milestone moment for the project, and the town of Swords, the multi-million Euro Swords Cultural project has gone for construction tender.
Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of next year with an expected open date for the new library, gallery, theatre and cultural space in 2026.
The construction work on the cultural quater will happen at the same time as the apartments on Seatown Road and because of this an extended road closure of two years is proposed for the Seatown Rd from North St to St Columcilles Drive.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“It is fantastic to see this project moving forward at pace. It will be a transformative investment in the town bringing a much needed cultural space to the area.
“For so long we have seen this kind of investment in other areas and it is really positive to see Fingal County Council focus on Swords in this way.
“There will be some traffic issues during construction but with significant construction happening on both sides of the road it seems an extended closure is the only option. I will be encouraging the council to consult and communicate fully with the residents impacted and in particular Fingal Community College.”
