The safe ‘routes to school’ works outside St Cronan’s National Schools in Swords is expected to start in 2022.
Also the protected cycle lanes on the Murrough Rd will be part of that project and plans are currently with the National Transport Agency.
Fingal Council officials told the Area Committee of the council: “The works on Murrough Road have been expanded to include works on St Cronan’s Road, Brackenstown Road and Safer Routes to School Works at St Cronan’s Junior and Senior School
“The application has been lodged with the NTA for to secure the additional funding required and works are ongoing on the detailed design for the complete package of works. Works are due to commence on the ground in early 2022.”
Cllr Ian Carey said:
It is really great to see these works finally coming forward. It’s so valuable for young people with a safe way to get to school. Parents will know how crazy traffic can be around the school during drop off and pick up times. The more children we can get cycling, scooting, and walking to school the better. I look forward to seeing the designs.
I also look forward to the delivery of protected cycle lanes on the Murrough Rd. This is an important link road and it will play a part in linking residential areas to secondary schools. This will be a really important step in making Swords a more cycle friendly town.
