Following reports of two accidents in recent weeks on the Rathbeale Rd, Fingal County Council are conducting a speed survey to inform futher traffic calming measures.
A new speed reader sign is also being installed next to the junction for JC’s supermarket in the coming weeks.
In response to a motion calling for a safety assessment of the area a council official responded:
A new speed reader sign is scheduled for installation as a traffic calming measure on this stretch of road and will be located on the southeastern approach to the T-junction of JCs /Dunnes Stores Shopping Centre. The situation will be kept under review for the possible future provision of further traffic calming measures. A speed survey is to be carried out along a 1km section of the Rathbeale in
the near future and this will guide whether any further traffic calming measures need to be considered.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“In recent weeks there have been a number of reported accidents on the Rathbeale Rd and I’m glad to see the council are looking to respond to this. I brought a motion to the last area committee because of serious concerns of local residents to what feels like escalating speed in the area. The traffic on the Rathbeale Rd is making the junctions at JC’s and Lidl very difficult to negotiate. In addition to calming we need to make it easier for people to use forms of transport other than their cars.”
