Just two schools in the Swords LEA have received funding for minor works over the summer months.
Minister for Education Norma Foley TD has today (24 January 2022) announced funding of €65 million for the approval of 497 projects under the 2022 Summer Works Scheme.
The Old Borough National School in Swords will receive funding for work on their yard and outside spaces and St Margarets National School will receive funding for same.
“Every school in the Swords area is crying out for additional infrastrucuture and funding in one way or another,” said Cllr Ian Carey.
“Covid has also tested our school facilities to the max and I hope the easing for restrictions will allow education to return to some kind of normality.
“While this funding is welcome we need much more investment in our schools to bring them up to acceptable levels. Swords because of the increase in population down the years has suffered with this in particular and I’ll be calling on the department and the Minister to give special attention to schools in areas of high population growth.”
