Have you noticed those turquoise coloured bikes around Swords? They are new rental ebikes available in Fingal.
The company is Tier and the new Fingal rental scheme is their first in Ireland. They come from Berlin and in other countries they rent bikes, scooters and mopeds.
The new ebike rental scheme will allow you to cycle around Swords, Malahide and down the coast to Howth. There is also a separate scheme in Blanchardstown.
The bikes can be accessed by downloading the Tier app and you can unlock the bike for a fee.
The cost is €1 to unlock the ebike and 20 cent per minute but you can get better deals by purchasing ‘passes’ through the app.
Cllr Ian Carey, commented on the scheme:
“It’s good to see more bike rental schemes happening in Swords. Ebikes can help make cycling easier for people and hopefully they can encourage more people to give it a go.
“Anything to encourage cycling in Swords I welcome because its a convenient and healthy way to get around and congestion is a constant problem. The pricing is a little more than we have been used to but I’m sure the ebikes are worth it, especially when you are gliding up the hill of Howth.”
