A new and dedicated off-leash area of the Ward River Valley River Valley Park will be fenced off for dog walking, officials told the local area committee.
The area will be between the two pedestrian bridges to the east of the park and will include:
- Double gate entrances at a number of locations
- Durable hard surfaces at the gates
- Paths and benches provided
- Access to the river for dogs
- Split hazel fencing and natural hedgrow borders
- Over 4 acres
In reponse Cllr Ian Carey said:
“While I welcome the plans to provide a better designed and dedicated off leash area, I think the council need to look at the location again. This is a very popular and central part of the park and I belive there are probably better locations to look at. We need to accomodate proper exercise for dogs but we also need to consider all park users.”
Officials have agreed to look again at the location and to consider proposals from public representatives and the community.
