To some the Pavillions is already an alternate universe.
But it seems that there are plans afoot to open virtual reality gaming rooms in the Pavillions Shopping Centre.
According to a planning application submitted last month the owner of the Pavillions is seeking a change of use from retail to leisure – virtual reality gaming rooms.
The unit that is being proposed for the change will open out onto the first floor walkway in the centre of the shopping centre. A new shopfront and extension of the walkway will be needed.
There are currently no more details in the application about what exactly will be offered but the layout of the unit looks similar to an escape room type set up with two Virtual Reality rooms, and a party room adjacent.
The application is currently pending so its not certain if the change of use will go ahead.

“It’s interesting to see what is being proposed. I hope we will get some more details soon but its clear that shopping centres like the Pavillions can increase their footfall by diversifying what they offer and that is something that should be supported.”
