Garda Operation Tombola, which aims to minimise anti-social issues around Halloween, has started this week.
This means Gardaí will be working to seize fireworks and bonfire stockpiles over the next 5 weeks
Commenting on the operation, Cllr Ian Carey said:
“Halloween can be a difficult time for the community. Every year we risk serious anti-social incidents around Halloween if we don’t manage the situation carefully.
“In recent years we have been doing a better job at this but in some areas in Swords there have still been problems.
“A lot of these issues can be solved by the community being vigilant and working with the local Gardaí and the operations team of Fingal County Council.
“If you are aware of bonfire stockpiling I strongly encourage you to come forward and report it to the gardaí or the council. If we can limit the number of ad hoc bonfires and encourage people to go to council organised events then we can really improve safety and limit anti-social behaviour on halloween night.”
