It won’t come as a surprise to parents who have recently sent a child to second level, but a new report has found that ever secondary school in Swords is oversubscribed.

It shows how Swords, and many other commuter belt towns, have problems accomodating all local children at secondary level.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“At both primary and secondary level, Swords is being let down by the Department of Education. We have poorly located primary schools leading to major problems and we have many students having to travel outside of the town for secondary level.
“Swords is going to continue to grow and we can’t have this crisis management approach to school provision continue in relation to secondary level places. We need to have schools in place ahead of population surges and if we need to expand some schools for future levels, we need to do that now.”
