Tier bikes, that came to Swords earlier this year, have had a really strong take up and company is now expanding across Fingal.
The electric bikes have been used for some 2,500 hours since they were launched in June and now the company are expanding the number of bikes and the area they cover.
The fleet will now expand to over 300 bikes and this is in addition to the Bleeper push bikes and the ESB electric bikes schemes which are also running in the town.
The Tier bikes will now be available for longer trips to Howth or even to Balbriggan as the area they operate expands across the county.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“It’s fantastic to see people in Swords really embrace these rental bikes. It shows how much interest there is in cycling and active travel around the town. Unlike other schemes I think they are more useful around the town because you can drop them in a local centre such as Applewood or Swords Manor if you are going home and you don’t have to bring them back to Main St. The only issue with them is that sometime they are not parked in approapriate places. Hopefully this can be resolved with the roll out of more bike parking locations in the town.”
