Thirteen homes, which are part of the new Mooretown Development, are being made available through a cost rental scheme.
The scheme has already attracted significant interest with close to 600 applications in a matter of days.
The homes are three-bedroom A-rated and are part of the Mooretown Development which will connect the Rathbeale Rd with the back of Swords Manor.
The rent for the homes is set at €1,654 with long-term secure tenancy and is available to families with net income of up to €66,000 per annum (which for a couple jointly assessed could be a household income of around €90,000)
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“I’m glad to see cost rental coming on stream in Swords. It’s a popular housing option right around Europe and was a central element of the Green Party’s housing policy which has been implemented in government.
“Clearly though the volume of people trying to avail of the scheme shows that we have very many people in desperate need of support to find affordable housing. I would love to see greater levels of cost rental coming being delivered to meet this demand. There are postives on what is being delivered in Swords through private, affordable schemes and social housing. The Mooretown/Oldtown development will deliver several hundred homes in the years ahead and Fingal have a number of other sites around the town where they aim to deliver social housing projects. There is a lot in the pipeline in the Swords area and I hope delivery can continue at pace.”
