Charlie and Claire Bird were in Swords last week to open the new Pieta centre on Bridge St.
The new facility was part funded by the ‘Climb with Charlie’ initiative and a plaque was unveiled to honour his outstanding fundraising efforts.
Pieta provide free counselling to those with suicidal ideation, those engaging in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide. Staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service.
Commenting on the new facility Cllr Ian Carey said:
“It is great to see such a facility coming to Swords. The work that Pieta do, helping people in crisis, is so important. The sad reality is that is badly needed and will be a real boost to Swords and North County Dublin.
“The work of Pieta depends so much on the fundraising of volunteers and I especially want to commend Charlie for all he has done to support the charity and make this facility a reality.”
