The long-awaited all-weather pitch in Rivervalley is on the cusp of completion with officials expecting it to be finished next week.
The new ‘go games’ area, pitch upgrades and car park are expected to be available to the public by the end of the year.
In response to a question from Cllr Ian Carey, the project team explained:
The installation of the 3G All Weather carpet system at the Recreational Hub
in Ward River Valley, commenced during the last week in Sept. The
installation will take 3 to 4 weeks depending on weather conditions. The
installation of the 3G system, which will include the importation of 400
tonnes of sand infill to the surface, will constitute a major milestone for the
project. Following this, the construction of the Go Games/training area
adjacent to the new car park and the landscaping of the carpark will be
completed along with the commissioning of the LED sports floodlighting and
public lighting to the carpark. It is anticipated that the state-of-the-art
sporting facility will be completed and made available to the people of
Swords and the surrounding area before the end of this year.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“Anyone keeping an eye on the project progress will have noticed that it has been a bit stop start, in particular with the all-weather pitch. I’m glad that there is now clarity around its completion. It will be a fantastic boost for the clubs there.”
