If you can see your house under the contour lines above or you are concerned about the impact of noise please read on.
The Aircraft Noise Competent Authority (ANCA) is about to make a decision which will negatively impact the health of people in Swords for years to come.
They are about to recommend planning rules change so that Dublin Airport can run flights off the new North Runway during the night.
This will bring thousands of Swords residents into the area impacted by noise at night for the first time.
Disturbed sleep can have a serious impact on your health.
THE DEADLINE FOR THE CONSULTATION IS THIS MONDAY (FEBRUARY 28TH).
You may never get another chance to have your voice heard. I have created an online form which will help you make a submission and will only take two minutes.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2018 released a document which outlined how aircraft noise and in particular night time noise is linked to cardiovascular disease and other illnesses.
ANCA’s draft decision allows night-time flight movements on the new North Runway
- For Easterly operations, departures on the North Runway between 06:00-07:00 and arrivals 23:00-24:00
- For Westerly operations, departures on the North Runway 06:00-07:00
This means that for the first time more than half of Swords will fall into the 40dB noise zone. And a large number of homes will fall into the 45db zone which will leave many people Highly Sleep Disturbed. See images.
No night time flights should be allowed as per the original planning permission for the North Runway.
The airport can change the way it operates to limit the impact of these restrictions but people cannot move their homes to avoid the new noise pollution.
