Two apartment blocks of six-storey and three-storey are proposed for the corner of Rathbeale Rd and Watery Lane in Swords.
The proposal is for 15 one-bed, 22 two-bed, and 3 three-bed apartments.
The planning application is proposing two blocks one on the Rathbeale Rd which is highest at the corner, at six-storeys, but steps down in height to five storeys as it moves up the Rathbeale Rd. The Rathbeale Road block does not border onto the existing housing as there is another vacant site between it and Rathbeale Court.
The three-storey block is along Watery Lane and has parking spaces in front of it, this block is adjacent to the existing homes on the road.
The proposal includes small private gardens for ground floor residents along the Rathbeale Rd and balconies for apartments on higher floors. It also includes a central courtyard and communal barbeque area.
A member of the public has until May 29th to make a submission in relation to this application. You can find the application by clicking here.
Cllr Ian Carey said:
“This corner site right in the centre of Swords has been vacant for longer than I can remember. It is good to see plans to develop it. This site is so central I believe the densities proposed are warranted although the heights involved will be new to the area.
“I would like to see this development allow sufficient road space to allow for the full allocation of 2m cycle tracks and footpaths on the Rathbeale Rd and Watery Lane. This is a really difficult place to walk and cycle and is a pinch point for the many people who walk in this area. These roads are such central access points for many areas in the town we need this maximum walking and cycling space.
“From a heritage perspective I would like to see the Watery Lane pump retained in the development and made a feature on the corner. The old pumps around the town should be preserved. I encourage everyone who has any interest in this site to make a submission.”
